Chengdu enjoys a mild climate. It is warm and wet all year. The annual temperature averages 16°C. To summarize the climate of Chengdu, it has “an early spring, hot summer, cool autumn and warm winter”. It is very misty all year, and the sunshine time is short, that is why “the Shu dogs bark on the sunshine” (The sunshine seems so strange to them). The temperature is not so high in summer, but it is very muggy because it is humid. The temperature is generally above 5°C during winter. And it is usually very cloudy and humid.
Chengdu, also known as the hibiscus city or the brocade city, has been a famous cultural centre with age-old colorful traditions of both religious and civil significance for the past 2,500 years in Chinese history. It has been ranked as one of the first excellent tourist city in China. Famous scenic spots in Chengdu include:
Wuhou Memorial Temple -- Wuhou (Martial Marquis) Memorial Temple is dedicated to the memory of Zhuge Liang, Prime Minister of the Shu Kingdom in the Three Kingdoms Period. It is usually the first destination for a visit to Chengdu, and typically it is the representative of Shu culture.
Thatched Cottage of Du Fu -- Thatched Cottage of Du Fu is the place where Du Fu stayed. Thatched Cottage of Du Fu museum is not only the best place to learn about Du Fu and his composition, but also a destination for a visitor who likes Du Fu’s poem.
Wenshu Monastery -- one of the “great four jungles” in the east of Sichuan during the Qing Dynasty; a major Buddhist temple in the Han area of China.
Dujiangyan Irrigation Project -- The Dujiangyan Irrigation Project was listed on world cultural heritages. Tourists can enjoy the great water conservancy project about 2 thousand years ago.
Qingcheng Mountain -- It is a famous mountain in Taoism which attracts a large number of pilgrims. It enjoys the good name of “Mt. Qingcheng is the most peaceful place in the world” and “fairyland on earth”, which is the best summer resort.
It is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter, so the whole year is suitable for tourists. The best tourist season: March to June; September to November.
July and August are the hottest time in Chengdu. However, it is cool in the Qingcheng Mountain (20 km southwest to Dujiangyan City), Jiulong Gou (northwest of Congzhou City), Jiufeng Mountain (located in Pengzhou City), Tiantai Mountain (in Qionglai City, 120 km from Chengdu) and Longchi Forest Park (northwest to Dujiangyan City), where it is very nice to spend the summer. It is also a good choice to visit Xiling Snowy Mountain (in Dayi County, 105 km from Chengdu) and Longchi Forest Park in winter.
It often rains in Chengdu. Tourists should take umbrellas along.
