The climate belongs to the humid sub-tropical monsoon climate. It's warm in winter and it's hot in summer. When spring and summer meet, it often rains at night. So it has the reputation of "Ba Mountains' Night Rain". However, most days are foggy in winter and spring. The annual average foggy days are 100-150. Hence, Chongqing is also called "foggy city". Its feature of climate is just like some proverbs: the temperature is unstable in the early morning of spring; it's very hot and drought in summer; it's cool and rainy in autumn; it's warm and foggy with little snow in winter.

Experiencing the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, it was very popular in the Southern Song and Northern Song Dynasties (A.D.960-1278). In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, more statues were carved. Finally, a large rock-carving group, which gathered the pith of China's rock carvings, was formed. It's equally famous with the Yungang Grotto, the Longmen Grotto and the Duhuang Grotto.

There is little frost and snow and much wind and frog all year around in Chongqing. Winter is warm; summer is hot; spring comes early; autumn is short.
