Dandong, generally known as Andong, is originated from the Andong Regional Command set in Tang dynasty. It used to be an area with military importance in the frontier. In 1907, Andong was open by the government of Qing dynasty as a port for foreign trade. After that the national industry and commerce in Andong developed rapidly, which led to the uprising of the local economy. Andong soon became a distributing center of materials in Liaoning and East Jilin Province, and the window for import and export. As the largest city on the border of China and the coastal city in the northernmost part of the nation, Dandong is endowed with unique natural, historical, and cultural resources.
