Yichang is a lively city on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. It is one of the terminuses for the Yangtze Cruise from Chongqing. The city looks very tidy and new. The Yangtze River goes through the center of city with both of its banks covered with verdant trees. Yichang has been thrust into the world limelight since the start of the Three Gorges Project. The project base and the dam are around 45 minute's drive from the city. Yichang is rich in natural resources including hydro energy, minerals, forestry. Local specialties include tea, sweet oranges, tobacco, fragrant fungus, auricularia auricular and Chinese chestnuts. It is the main production area for tea and oranges in Hubei province.
