Baotou, called Baoketu in Mongolian, which means a place of deer. Baotou governs Kundulun District, Qingshan District, Donghe District, Jiuyuan District, Shiguai District, Baiyun Mineral District, Guyang County, Tumote Right Banner and De'erhan Maoming'an United Banner. The total area of Baotou Municipality covers 27691 square kilometers with a population totaling over 2.4 millions. There are 43 nationalities inhabiting in Baotou, such as the Mongolian ethnic group, the Han ethnic group, the Hui ethnic group and the Man ethnic group. Baotou boasts a great many places of cultural interests, prairie landscapes, singular Yellow River scenery and unique desert landscapes, including the Site of Ancient Qin-Zhao Great Wall, Wudangzhao Temple, Source of the Yellow River, Nanhaizi Tourist District and Resonant Sand Gorge.
